EMILY SCAYSBROOK
Your independent candidate for Marston
I’m standing in Marston as an independent candidate with the Independent Oxford Alliance this May because I can’t sit back and watch poor decisions continue to be made by councillors claiming to act in residents’ interests while their policies actively damage our community.
I have lived and worked in Oxford for most of my life. I first became involved in local politics in 2020 when I discovered plans to introduce ‘traffic filters’ to the city - an even more punitive version of the congestion charge. Since then, I’ve spoken at numerous council meetings and am now one of three local residents leading the legal challenge against the scheme. Find out more on our website here.
The congestion charge is a clear example of what is wrong with local government today: top-down decisions made by councillors unwilling to question their own assumptions. Regardless of what they’re now saying, the decision to introduce the congestion charge was taken by a coalition of Greens, Labour and Lib Dems. Politics should be better than this.
I will use common sense, guided by residents - not ideology. I would be incredibly proud to represent Marston.
The independent voice was just 44 votes away from winning in Marston last city election - WE CAN WIN HERE. Make sure you’re registered to vote by April 20th.
