Voting FAQs

The Oxfordshire County Council elections are scheduled for Thursday, 1 May 2025. Polling stations will be open from 7:00 am until 10:00 pm on that day - make sure you know your polling station location (as listed on your poll card) and bring an accepted photo ID if you plan to vote in person (photo ID is required at polling stations in England)!

  • See whocanivotefor.org for a full list of all candidates standing in Parks division.

  • If you are voting in person, polling stations are open 7am until 10pm on May 1st. (Please note that the deadline to apply to vote by post has now passed.)

  • Make sure to go to your allocated polling station - the address will be printed on your poll card. You can also find your local polling station here.

  • MAKE SURE YOU TAKE AN ACCEPTED FORM OF PHOTO ID WITH YOU. You will not be allowed to vote without it. Several forms of ID are acceptable to vote, including passport, driving licence, Blue Badge and Older Person’s Bus Pass. (As long as there is still good likeness, you can also use expired photo ID documents.)

  • I’m standing in Parks division - a new division that covered the High Street and the areas immediately to the north and south, as well as St Clements and some of Cowley road and its northern side streets. You can see the best map I’ve found that shows the exact boundaries and other divisions in full here.

  • Don’t worry — you can still vote, but you must act quickly.

Call the Elections Office on 01235 422422 as soon as possible.
If your postal vote hasn’t arrived, you can request a replacement up until 5pm on polling day (Thursday 1 May).

If you call on Tues 29 April: they’ll post a new one first-class. (if that doesn’t arrive by Wednesday, call again on Wednesday!)

If you call on Weds 30 April: You’ll need to collect it in person from Abbey House in Abingdon.

You’ll need to bring photo ID if collecting in person.

Once you’ve filled out your replacement, hand-deliver it to any local polling station or the Elections Office before 10pm on 1 May.

(If your original pack turns up later, don’t use it — only the replacement is valid.)

Still unsure? Give the Elections Office a call — they’ll guide you through it.

  • Can I apply for an emergency proxy vote?

Yes! If you find out after the normal deadline (5pm on 23 April) that you can’t vote in person on polling day, you may still be able to appoint someone you trust to vote for you — this is called an emergency proxy.

You can apply for an emergency proxy if:

    • You have a medical emergency or accident after the proxy deadline

    • You are called away unexpectedly for work

    • Your photo ID is lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed after the ID deadline

You must apply for an emergency proxy by 5pm on polling day, Thursday 1 May 2025.

    How to apply:

    • Contact the Elections Office immediately on 01235 422422.

    • You’ll need to complete a short form explaining your situation.

    • Some emergency proxies (like medical ones) require a signed confirmation from a doctor, employer, or other relevant person.

    Your proxy:

    • Must be a registered voter and eligible to vote in Oxfordshire.

    • Must bring their own photo ID to your polling station (they vote at your station, not theirs!).

    • Can vote on your behalf — but only according to your instructions.

Act fast: If you think you might need an emergency proxy, don't wait — contact your council’s electoral services team as soon as possible to get the right form.
